‘It’s a death trap’-Blue Whale Challenge ‘survivor’ in Puducherry shares chilling details of online suicide game!

07 Sep. 13:47

There are not many who have escaped the claws of this deathly online suicide game. Blue Whale Challenge has created a wave of hullabaloo in the world and there’s no sign of it stopping. In India, this online suicide game has claimed 5 lives so far. Around the world, the death tolls are dreadfully high. Very few lucky people have escaped the Blue Whale Challenge alive, and among those, a 22-year-old Puducherry man recounts the horror of this game.

He told that it was ‘agonizing experience’ and a death trap which he couldn’t escape even though he wanted to. On Tuesday, Alexander was about to carve the blue whale on his wrist when police barged into his home in Karaikal. He was about to end his life after carving the motif on his wrist, but to his luck, the police arrived timely.

"It is a virtual death trap. You will go through an agonising experience. Even those who seek adventures will be mentally affected," he warned the youngsters to stay away from the game. He spoke to media with a senior police officer, Vamseedhar Reddy by his side.

Two weeks ago, Alexander received the Blue Whale Challenge link on a WhatsApp group, which included his colleagues from a courier company. He started playing the game when he was in his hometown Neravy. In no time, he got addicted to it. His addiction grew so intense that he didn’t return to his work in Chennai.

"It is not an app or a game to be downloaded. It is just a link customised for individuals playing the game by the Blue Whale admin," he told.

"The tasks given by the admin are to be completed only after 2 am every day. The first few days went into posting personal details and photographs, which were collected by the Blue Whale admin."

During one of those tasks, Alexander was asked to visit a graveyard at midnight. This is one of the most well-known task of the 50-step game. He did as the admin asked him to do.

“I went to the Akkaraivattam graveyard around midnight, took a selfie and posted it online. Every day I had to watch horror movies alone, as the idea was to make victims shun fear," he said.

"I avoided talking to people at home and remained confined to my room. It was mentally taxing. Though I wanted to get out of the game, I could not do so," added Alexander.

His brother Ajith noticed strange patterns in his behaviour and contacted the police about it. He was aware that Blue Whale Challenge is taking a toll on people these days. A police team arrive at their home at 4 am only to find Alexander holding a knife to carve a Blue Whale on his wrist.

Alexander underwent mental therapies and now is stable.

Many youngsters, just to challenge their guts, download the game and try to escape alive. But the death trap is more grotesque beyond our imagination. Not everyone could make out alive. The challenge which originated in Russia, has taken 100 lives across the world. We advise the youngsters to refrain venturing into the murky world of online suicide games. We repeat, they are much eviler than we can imagine.

Rising food prices push India's August retail inflation to five-month high

Rising food prices push India's August retail inflation to five-month high India 13 Sep. 09:01 India’s consumer price inflation rose more than expected to a five-month high in August, fueled by strong gains in prices of food items, dampening chances of a rate cut by the central bank in a policy review next month amid weak economic growth. India’s consumer price index (CPI) INCPIY=ECI rose 3.36 percent in August from a year earlier, data released by the Ministry of Statistics on Tuesday showed. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected CPI inflation would edge up to 3.20 percent, compared with 2.36 percent in July. Last month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cut its main policy rate by 25 basis points to 6 percent, the lowest since 2010, while keeping its policy stance at “neutral”. Analysts said a rise in inflation for two straight months has reduced the chances of another rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India, which has a central inflation tar...
