6 ALLEGED COW VIGILANTES LET OFF THE HOOK INVITES OUTRAGE

Various civil rights groups expressed outrage over the closure of investigation against six persons allegedly cow vigilantes involved in the lynching of dairy farmer Pehlu Khan.

The case against six persons was registered on the basis of Pehlu Khan’s dying declaration at a private hospital in Behror. The CID-CB of the State police has reportedly cleared the accused of all charges while arriving at a conclusion that they were not present on the spot when the offence was committed.

Pehlu Khan (55) and his two sons were transporting cows after purchasing them in a cattle fair in Jaipur, to their hometown Nuh in Haryana. They were waylaid on the Jaipur-Delhi national highway by a mob of self-styled cow vigilantes and beaten up. Pehlu Khan succumbed to his injuries after two days.

The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), which spearheaded a campaign for getting justice to the victims in the case, said the police were protecting the accused — all of whom were office-bearers of right-wing Hindutva groups — morning on way to Jaipur. Some right-wing groups have threatened that they would not allow the activists to enter the town and stop the march on the highway under pressure of the BJP government. “The CID-CB is under direct control of the Home Minister. Its blatant bias is very obvious,” said PUCL president Kavita Srivastava

Mr. Srivastava said the rights groups along with Pehlu Khan’s sons, who were also complainants in the police case, would challenge the CID-CB’s closure of investigation in the court. “The court will not allow closure without issuing notice to the complainants. We will expose the illegality of police action in the court.”

The rights groups are also worried about safety of the participants in a “Karwan-e-Mohabbat” of Aman Biradari, which will be passing through Behror on Friday morni on way to Jaipur. Some right-wing groups have threatened that they would not allow the activists to enter the town and stop the march on the highway.

New carp species to extend scale of GM produce

New carp species to extend scale of GM produce 2017-09-14 06:42:38 Scientists say the development will provide more resources and help to strengthen food security, as Zhang Zhihao reports. While giant genetically modified Chinese carp may leap onto the nation's dinner tables in about two years, scientists are urging that the promotion of GM fish should be conducted slowly and meticulously to avoid a public pushback. The development of GM fish will have great economic value, protect national food security and help build sustainable agriculture, according to Wang Yaping, a researcher at the Chi-nese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Hydrobiology, speaking in an exclusive inter-view with China Daily. In early August, Canadian supermarkets became the first in the world to sell a fast-grow-ing GM salmon developed by AquaBounty Technologies, a biotech company in the US. However, few people realize that in 1983 China was the first country to produce transgenic fish calle...

The Bose headphones with Google Assistant are official now Push for Google  Sep 21, 2017, 8:00am EDIT Google and Bose are today officially announcing a new version of the headphone maker’s great noise cancelling headphones, the QC 35s. The big new addition is Google Assistant — or rather, a dedicated button on the headphones that triggers the Google Assistant. The new branding is simply QC 35 II, and according to Google you set them up as usual via Bluetooth and then follow some instructions built into the Google Assistant app on either an Android phone (running Marshmallow or above) or an iPhone. Once that’s done, you’ll hold down the new button that’s on the right ear cup to trigger the Google Assistant. Google says that it can do most things the Assistant can do on your phone — read messages, play music or news, and of course call people. But the Assistant has slightly different capabilities in every place it appears, so it may be th...
