Pehlu Khan, the breadwinner of the family succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on April 3. Before he died, Khan named the six men – three of them are linked to Hindu right-wing organizations, the report said.

The employees of the cow shelter, Rath Gaushala, indicated that the six accused were present on their premises at the time of lynching. The Gaushala is about 4 km away from the spot where Khan was lynched.

“Based on the findings of the investigating officer, it is hereby recommended that the names of the six accused be removed from the case as they have been found not guilty,” reads the investigation report according to Hindustan Times.

Khans’ family members were shocked at the development.

Irshad, Khan’s son who was also among the people injured during the assault, told HT that all the six were present and were calling each other’s names.

“Be it, Hukum Yadav or Sudhir Yadav, we heard all the accused calling each other by their names. They kept saying ‘beat these Muslims, they are cattle smugglers’.”
