BEZEL-LESS BATTLE Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 vs. Samsung Galaxy S8+: It's all in the details Wednesday, Oct 4, 2017 at 1:14 am EDT The Galaxy S8+ is still the best Android phone available today, but the Mi Mix 2 has a lot going for it. The  Galaxy S8+  is going strong five months after its release, with the phone  breaking Samsung's sales records . The South Korean manufacturer introduced the Infinity View display with the Galaxy S8 series, offering a dual curved display with minimal bezels at the top and bottom. The 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display on the phone is one of the best available on a phone today, and coupled with a class-leading camera, it's easy to see why the S8+ is so popular. Xiaomi, for its part, attracted considerable attention with the Mi Mix last year, and the company has refined the bezel-less formula with the  Mi Mix 2 . Xiaomi retained the razor-thin bezels, but tweaked the overall design aesthetic to make the Mi Mix 2 much more conducive for everyd...

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is smaller, faster, and probably a lot better Sep 11, 2017, 4:19am EDT Photo by Dan Seifert / The Verge As statements of intent in phone design go, it’s hard to think of a stronger one than the original Mi Mix. Calling it a “concept phone” and drawing on the talents of legendary designer Philippe Starck, Xiaomi built a minimalist slab dominated by a huge screen with tiny bezels that foreshadowed the biggest trend in 2017's smartphones. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the most practical phone to actually use. But now, just under a year later, Xiaomi is ready to reveal a sequel — and on first glance the Mi Mix 2 looks like a phone that you’d be far more likely to want to live with. A SMALLER SCREEN WITH A NARROWER ASPECT RATIO At 5.99 inches, the screen is quite a bit smaller than the colossal 6.44-inch panel used in the original. It’s likely to feel a little smaller than those numbers would imply, too, because it uses an 18:9 aspect ratio compared to 17:9, mean...

Xiaomi Chiron spotted with 5.6" screen, Snapdragon 835 chipset 18 September 2017 A curious Xiaomi passed through GFXBench – code named Chiron, the mysterious phone has a 5.6” screen with 16.5:9 aspect ratio. That’s quite unusual, the original Mi Mix had a 17:9 screen, the new one is at 18:9. This device has 1,080 x 1,980px resolution instead – seems just enough to fit on-screen buttons and leave a 16:9 screen behind. But don’t be distracted by the lack of QHD resolution this is a flagship device. The Xiaomi Chiron has a Snapdragon 835 chipset with 6GB of RAM and a whopping 256GB of built-in storage. This could be the Mi Note 3 that people actually wanted, not the Snapdragon 660 copout. Xiaomi Chiron specs by way of GFXBench Anyway, the new phone has a 12MP main camera on the back (not quite clear if its single or dual cam) with 4K 2160p video recording. There’s a 5MP selfie cam on the front too. The Chiron will come out with Androi...
