Deadlines To Link Aadhaar With PAN, Mobile Number, Bank Account—Here are all details

25 Sep. 18:06

The government has stated deadlines for linking your Aadhar card to a range of documents ranging from ITR returns to applying for a PAN Card to using a mobile phone connection.

The government is moving ahead with linking Aadhaar with mobile SIM cards. All mobile phone numbers or SIMs not linked with Aadhaar will be deactivated after February 2018.

While customers of telecom operators like Airtel, Idea and Vodafone have been receiving messages for linking their phone SIM card with Aadhaar following directive by government, the 12-digit Aadhaar is also being aggressively pushed by government for availing a host of financial services like bank account and mutual funds. Aadhaar is based on biometrics-based data.

Aadhaar declaration is also necessary to avail numerous social security schemes like pension, scholarship and LPG connection. Driving license is another document on the radar of the government's ambitious push to link Aadhaar with essential services in order to plug leakages and gaps that exist within the system.

Here are all the deadlines to remember:

PAN:

Deadline: Dec 31, 2017

Linking Aadhaar-PAN is mandatory for processing of income tax returns (ITRs) for assessment year 2017-18. While earlier the deadline was August 31, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the last date to December 31, 2017 for easy compliance by taxpayers. You can link the PAN to Aadhaar by login to the income tax filing website by entering PAN (User ID), password and your date of birth. Now click on 'Profile Settings' tab and select the last option 'Link Aadhaar'. You are required to enter details like name, date of birth and gender as per PAN records and also your Aadhaar number. Enter the captcha code and submit.

Mobile SIM:

Deadline: February 2018

Mobile phone service users will have to link their Aadhaar numbers with SIM cards. Many telecom companies have now started sending alerts to customers about completing the Aadhaar-Mobile number linking process. They had earlier instructed their customers to start the process of linking their Aadhaar card numbers with phone numbers."As per the government directive, linking Aadhaar to your mobile number is mandatory for all existing customers," Bharti Airtel, the country's largest telecom operator, said on its website.

Bank account/Mutual Funds:

Deadline: Dec 31, 2017

The government has made it mandatory for all banks and financial institutions to mention the Aadhaar details of clients in the KYC (Know your Customer) document. A KYC document basically provides all the details that authenticate the identity of a user. People who have taken loans are also required to file their Aadhaar details. If you fail to link it with your bank account by December 31 this year, it may even become inoperable.

Social security Schemes:

Deadline: Dec 31, 2017

In order to correctly identify various beneficiaries of its social security schemes, government moved ahead with making Aadhaar declaration mandatory for welfare schemes like pension, scholarships etc. Lately, the government extended the September 30 deadline by three months.

New carp species to extend scale of GM produce

New carp species to extend scale of GM produce 2017-09-14 06:42:38 Scientists say the development will provide more resources and help to strengthen food security, as Zhang Zhihao reports. While giant genetically modified Chinese carp may leap onto the nation's dinner tables in about two years, scientists are urging that the promotion of GM fish should be conducted slowly and meticulously to avoid a public pushback. The development of GM fish will have great economic value, protect national food security and help build sustainable agriculture, according to Wang Yaping, a researcher at the Chi-nese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Hydrobiology, speaking in an exclusive inter-view with China Daily. In early August, Canadian supermarkets became the first in the world to sell a fast-grow-ing GM salmon developed by AquaBounty Technologies, a biotech company in the US. However, few people realize that in 1983 China was the first country to produce transgenic fish calle...

The Bose headphones with Google Assistant are official now Push for Google  Sep 21, 2017, 8:00am EDIT Google and Bose are today officially announcing a new version of the headphone maker’s great noise cancelling headphones, the QC 35s. The big new addition is Google Assistant — or rather, a dedicated button on the headphones that triggers the Google Assistant. The new branding is simply QC 35 II, and according to Google you set them up as usual via Bluetooth and then follow some instructions built into the Google Assistant app on either an Android phone (running Marshmallow or above) or an iPhone. Once that’s done, you’ll hold down the new button that’s on the right ear cup to trigger the Google Assistant. Google says that it can do most things the Assistant can do on your phone — read messages, play music or news, and of course call people. But the Assistant has slightly different capabilities in every place it appears, so it may be th...
