30 crore families get Jan Dhan accounts in 3 years: Arun Jaitley

Wednesday: India's biggest ever bank account opening drive, Jan Dhan Yojana has 30 crore families bank accounts which completed three years, said by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today.
Prior to Jan Dhan Yojana around 42 percent of households were unbanked, the unbanked households aim to give every household's access to banking facilities by giving them zero-balance accounts across all the commercial banks.
Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jetiely speaking at the conclave on financial inclusion said that the zero balance accounts have been decreased from 77 percent to 20 percent and this will also would become operational as direct benefit transfer expanded.
Three months after the scheme was launched in September 2014, there was about 76.81 percent accounts had zero - balance. But now the no. of zero balance accounts has now come down to 20 percent of the total.
Now, at least 99.99 percent of households have least one bank account, all thanks to Jan Dhan Yojana. Jaitley also said the biometric identification number Aadhar was an evolving idea under the prior UPA regime and did not have legislative backing.
